As Singapore’s financial sector grows in scale and sophistication, there is a need for economic and financial research to keep pace in order to support the complex activities within the industry. To facilitate interaction and collaborations between industry and academia, MAS is working closely with academia and industry partners to focus research efforts in the fields of economics and finance, to nurture the development of a pool of researchers in the financial sector, and to promote international partnerships.
Three research institutes have been formed to train and certify professionals on issues in finance, risk-management, and hedge funds. These research institutes are the INSEAD-Asia-Pacific Institute of Finance, the Berkeley-NUS Risk Management Institute, and the SMU-BNP Paribas Hedge Fund Centre. A fourth research institute, the Economic Studies Institute, will be set up this year to undertake research in a range of financial and economic policy issues facing the Singapore economy and the region. |
