BRUNEI-SINGAPORE CURRENCY INTERCHANGEABILITY AGREEMENT 40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Brunei-Singapore Currency Interchangeability Agreement (CIA). Celebrations were held in Brunei where His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah (Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam) and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong launched the special commemorative edition $20 currency notes. Singapore and Brunei have also each released a circulation version of the $20 notes. The CIA agreement ensures full interchangeability of our respective currencies at par. The arrangement has facilitated trade and investment between the two countries and contributed to monetary and macroeconomic stability. It has also strengthened the close bilateral relationship between Singapore and Brunei.
