The 2007/ 2008 MAS-ESS Essay Competition Award Ceremony was held on 11 July 2008 during the ESS Annual Dinner at The Ritz CarltonSingapore. Attractive cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners of the Competition, on the theme “Singapore’s Growing Income Disparities: Causes, Consequences and Policy Options”.
In his opening remarks, Dr Khor Hoe Ee, Assistant Managing Director (Economics) of MAS and President of ESS, said that the response to this years’ essay competition was overwhelming, 146 entries in all, which was twice the number of entries received in the previous year. He also remarked that many of the essays were of a very high quality.
At the ESS Annual Dinner, Guest-of-Honour, Minister Mentor, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew shared his views on how Singapore has navigated the challenges she has faced through the years, and how it is critical to take a global perspective when thinking about what lies ahead for the country.
