I refer to Mr Peter Tan’s request to “Consider issuing $20 notes at ATMs” (ST Forum, 22 November 2011).

The $20 “Bird” Series note, introduced in 1979, was discontinued due to low demand for the notes and the resultant higher cost of printing.  As Mr Tan had noted, the $20 denomination is widely used in many countries. The Monetary Authority of Singapore will consider re-introducing a $20 note when we develop a new notes series if we assess that there is sufficient public demand.
