SIR HOWARD DAVIES OF UK'S FSA TO DELIVER MAS LECTURE


16 May 2003, Singapore...Sir Howard Davies, Chairman of the Financial Services Authority (FSA), the UK's top financial regulator will deliver the 2003 MAS Lecture on Tuesday, 20 May 2003. A well-known regulator in the financial community, Sir Howard was instrumental in building the UK FSA into a single integrated financial supervisor overseeing over 11,000 financial institutions. The topic of Sir Howard's lecture is "Is the Global Regulatory System Fit for Purpose in the 21st Century?"

The MAS Lecture series, which began in 2000 provides a platform for a distinguished member of the international financial community to speak on issues of current  interest. Speakers in previous years have included Mr Robert Rubin, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Citigroup Inc and former US Treasury Secretary and Mr William McDonough, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Participants attending the lecture include central bank representatives from the region, senior executives from financial institutions based here and in Asia and officials from the public sector.

Audio and video recordings will be made available on the MAS' website at www.mas.gov.sg. Internet users can download the recording from 3.00pm on 20 May 2003.
