Inaugural MoneySense Roadshow

Singapore, 29 March 2006...The first MoneySENSE Roadshow will take place from 31 March to 2 April 2006 at HDB Hub 6.   Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Education and Deputy Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) will launch the event together with some new MoneySENSE programmes.

2. The MoneySENSE 2006 Roadshow will focus on financial education by active participation in a series of fun games and activities suitable for the whole family.

3. Highlights of the MoneySense Roadshow will include MoneySENSE Games where financial education tips and messages are conveyed in fun and non-intimidating ways, MoneySENSE Supermarket Contests where participants are judged according to the purchase decisions they make given a certain scenario and budget, and a full-day seminar covering debt management, health insurance, retirement planning and personal investing.

4. Celebrities such as Irene Ang, Patricia Mok, Jacelyn Tay and Devagi Sanmugan will be at the MoneySense Roadshow giving money management tips in their own unique style.  With specially organised activities for children, the event promises to be an enjoyable learning experience for the whole family.  Unlike other commercial roadshows where financial products and services are commonly marketed, the MoneySENSE Roadshow features only educational activities and materials.

5. The MoneySense Roadshow is one of many collaborative efforts by members of the public-sector MoneySENSE Financial Education Steering Committee and the private-sector MoneySENSE Industry Working Group to empower Singaporeans to be more self-reliant in managing their finances.  Going forward, MoneySENSE plans to replicate its Roadshow activities on a smaller scale, at other locations such as community centres / clubs.
