Response to "No Takers for Dirty Banknotes" (Straits Times, 13 November 2004)

Dear Sir,

I refer to "No takers for dirty banknotes" (ST Forum, 13 Nov 2004).

2   Soiled notes are still legal tender. The public should deposit them at banks. Banks are not supposed to re-issue soiled notes. As part of our clean note policy, banks will return the soiled notes to MAS, and we will remove them from circulation. Anyone who has difficulty depositing soiled notes with banks can contact us at 6349-4660.

Yours sincerely,

Angelina Fernandez
