Singapore, 20 May 2008...The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced that Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry, has been reappointed as MAS’ Deputy Chairman for a further two years with effect from 1 June 2008.
2 Professor Walter Woon, Attorney-General of Singapore, has also been appointed to the Board of Directors of the MAS with effect from today.
3 Professor Woon was called to the Singapore Bar in 1985. He became the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law in the National University of Singapore and was made a Professor of Law in February 1999. He was a Nominated Member of Parliament from 1992 to 1996. Professor Woon also served as the Legal Adviser to the President and Council of Presidential Advisors from 1995 to 1997. From 1997 to 2006 he was seconded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which period he served as Ambassador to Germany, Greece, the European Union, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and the Vatican. On 3 October 2006, he was appointed Second Solicitor-General and was redesignated as the Solicitor-General on 2 July 2007. Professor Woon assumed the appointment of Attorney-General on 11 April 2008.
4 Mr Chao Hick Tin has stepped down from the MAS Board with effect from 11 April 2008, following his reappointment as a Judge of Appeal of the Supreme Court. Mr Chao has served as a director since 22 May 2006. MAS expresses its deep appreciation to Mr Chao for his contributions.
