Singapore, 10 May 2008 …The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today launched the 2008 Singapore Identity Plan (Southern Ridges) Coins, the fourth set in a series to commemorate the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) Identity Plan.  

Coin Design

2   The coin designs are based on distinctive features of the four areas in the Southern Ridges cluster – Mount Faber, Telok Blangah Hill Park, Kent Ridge Park and Labrador Nature Reserve. 

3   A common theme that runs through the coins is the architectural designs of two key pedestrian bridges at the Southern Ridges:  the 80m long Alexandra Arch across Alexandra Road which connects to the 1.6km long elevated walkway leading to Telok Blangah Hill Park; and the 274m long Henderson Waves, which spans across Henderson Road to connect Telok Blangah Hill Park to Mount Faber Park. 

4   The obverse of the coins bears the Singapore Arms with the year-date 2008.

Limited Worldwide Mintage

5   The details of the coins are:

a)	$1 Silver Proof Coin 17.30 grams of 999 fine silver with colour application. Mintage of 8,000 pieces per design only.
b)	$1 Cupro-Nickel Proof-Like Coin Proof-like condition with selective colour application. Mintage will be based on demand.

URA’s Identity Plan aims to keep the unique “spirit” of places that are close to peoples’ hearts, by recognizing, retaining and enhancing certain places that are important to us.  These areas are grouped into various clusters.  The first three sets of coins featuring Old World Charm, Urban Villages and Rustic Coast clusters have already been issued.
