MAS Launches the 2009 Singapore 44 Years of Independence Commemorative Coins
Singapore, 07 July 2009...The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today launched a set of coins to commemorate Singapore’s 44 years of independence.
2 The coin design is based on the 2009 National Day Parade (NDP) theme, "Come Together – Reaching Out, Reaching Up", which draws inspiration from the Singapore Pledge. At the centre of the coin are silhouette images of a man and a woman taking the pledge before the Singapore flag to symbolize the coming together as "one united people, regardless of race, language or religion".
3 On the right are five stylized human figures reaching up into the sky in different colours that match the five stars in the NDP 09 logo. This reflects the second aspect of the NDP theme, to reach up towards our hopes and aspirations.
4 The tagline in the NDP 09 logo, "Reaching Out - Reaching Up", underpins a stylized version of the Marina Bay’s floating platform, the venue of the NDP 2009 celebration.
5 The obverse of the coins bears the Singapore Arms with the year-date 2009.
