Singapore, 25 May 2011…The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today launched The Grandeur of Heritage Orchids Coin Set, a special collection featuring all the orchids found in the popular Heritage Orchids of Singapore Coin Set Series that ended its issue last year.

Coin Design

2   This coin set comprises 10 Silver Proof coins, each featuring the same species of orchids in full colour from the Heritage Orchids of Singapore Coin Set Series. Each coin includes the contours of the respective orchid within a leaf-shaped enclosure at the bottom of the coin. The featured species of orchids are:

i.  Vanda Tan Chay Yan
ii.  Aranda Majula
iii.  Dendrobium Singa Mas        
iv.  Vanda Mimi Palmer
v.  Aranda Tay Swee Eng
vi.  Oncidium Goldiana
vii.  Spathoglottis Primrose            
viii.  Vanda Amy
ix.  Aranda Noorah Alsagoff
x.  Aranthera Anne Black       

3   The obverse of the coin bears the Singapore Arms with the year 2011.

Limited Worldwide Mintage

4   The coin set will be issued on 22 June 2011.   It comprises 10 pieces of 999 fine silver proof coins with colour application,along with one certificate of authenticity.  Each coin has a face value of $1, weighs 8.56 grams and has a diameter of 24.66 mm.  Mintage of 8,000 sets.
