MAS-ESS Essay Competition 2011/2012

Singapore, 27 January 2012…  The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Economic Society of Singapore (ESS) today launched the 10th essay competition. The theme for this year’s competition is “Moving Ahead With The Times: Managing External Challenges and Internal Diversities in Singapore”.

2   External economic developments such as the Eurozone financial crisis, sluggish U.S. economy and concerns about overheating in China and the developing economies, as well as a new political and social environment following Singapore’s General Election in the past year, had brought about new challenges to Singapore. Essays should provide in-depth analysis that discusses the contemporary changes facing Singapore and provide innovative ideas and approaches to securing sustainable and inclusive growth. While the broad nature of the topic considers non-economic perspectives, the essay should prioritize economic principles and thinking in analysis.

3   The essay competition is open to all pre-university students in Singapore, regardless of nationality, as well as pre-university Singaporean students studying abroad. The competition will run for three months from today. The following prizes will be awarded to the three best essays:

First Prize $3,000
Second Prize $2,000
Third Prize $1,000

4   The terms and conditions as well as entry forms for the MAS-ESS Economic Essay Competition is available on ESS (http://www.ess.org.sg ) website. The closing date for the submission of entries is 1 April 2012.
