Singapore, 20 November 2014…The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today launched the 2015 Year of the Goat Almanac Coins, 2015 Uncirculated Coin Set and Singapore Second Almanac Coin Series Puzzle Coin Set. These coins will be issued on 8 January 2015.
2015 Year of the Goat Coins
2 The coins are part of the third Chinese Almanac coin series. The image of the goat is integrated with ancient Chinese seal characters in a design that combines tradition and modernity. The animal is symbolised by the Chinese characters of the “Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches”. The design incorporates a peony which is a symbol of blessing and festive cheer.
3 The coins will be available in nine versions, including a 1 kg coin made of 999 fine silver introduced in the 2012 Year of the Dragon coin collection and a Silver Piedfort Proof Coin featuring the image of the goat in colour. Selected premium sets will include a unique 8-sided floral-shaped ingot featuring three goats in a pasture.
Singapore Second Almanac Coin Series Puzzle Coin Set
4 MAS will also issue the second puzzle coin set featuring the designs of past Chinese Almanac series. Similar to the first puzzle coin set issued in January 2014, the second puzzle coin set comprises a centre coin surrounded by 12 coins using a 3-way interlocking concept. For the 2015 issue, each of the 12 surrounding coins depicts an animal from the second Chinese Almanac series. The centre coin features the national flower of Singapore, the Vanda Miss Joaquim, plated in gold to commemorate Singapore’s golden jubilee in 2015.
5 The obverse of the coins bears the Singapore Coat of Arms with the year 2015.
6 The details of the coins are in Annex 1 (550.9 KB).
