Kampong Glam - Cultural and Heritage Site Series

Singapore, 28 April 2003. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today launched the 2003 Sterling Silver Proof Coin Set in the Cultural and Heritage Site series. The Sterling Silver Proof Coin sets, first issued in June 2000, features the cultural and heritage sites of Singapore.  The current and fourth set in the series features Kampong Glam in the 1950s.
 
2   The Singapore 2003 Silver Proof Coin Set, minted in 925 silver proof condition, consists of the 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, and $1 coins as well as a 12-sided scallop-edged $5 coin.  Also included in the set is a cupro-nickel ingot that features 2-storey shophouses, a traditional Malay satay-seller, and the old Sultan Mosque found in Kampong Glam during the 1950s.  

Limited Worldwide Mintage

3   The 2003 Sterling Silver Proof Coin Set will be limited to a mintage of only 10,000  worldwide.  Each set comes in a wooden case and a Certificate of Authenticity issued by MAS.

Limited Edition "Cultural and Heritage Series" Cards

4   In conjunction with the launch of this set, The Singapore Mint is also issuing a set of "Cultural and Heritage Series" cards, comprising a CashCard and an ez-link card.  The CashCard design depicts the street scenes at Kampong Glam in the 1950s including the Sultan Mosque. The ez-link card features Malay heritage like traditional Malay clothes and the kris.  The mintage for this 2-card set is limited to 6,000.  The CashCard is also available separately.

Special Premium Package

5   A Special Premium Package, comprising a 2003 Sterling Silver Proof Coin Set and the "Cultural and Heritage Series" cards set is also available.  The special feature of this package is the matching serial number of the cards set and the Certificate of Authenticity.

Grand Sets for Charity

6   Sale proceeds of 3 Grand Sets of the Special Premium Package  will be donated to the Community Chest. The serial numbers of the 3 Grand Sets are 00008, 00088 and 00888.  Public bidding for the sets can be done through fax at 6565 2626 or online @ www.mint.com.sg .

The 2003 Sterling Silver Proof Coin Set will be sold by The Singapore Mint, MAS' sole sales agent, at $128.00 each (inclusive of 4% GST).  The Special Premium Package is priced at $168.00.

The "Cultural and Heritage Series" cards set is priced at $36.00 (inclusive of 4% GST).  The CashCard is also available individually at $15.00 each (inclusive of 4% GST).
