10th Anniversary Commemorative Coin

Singapore, 1 June 2004...The 2004 China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park 10th Anniversary Commemorative Coin will be launched by Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the Ambassador of China, His Excellency Zhang Yun at a gala dinner tonight, hosted by the Singapore Suzhou Club at The Ritz-Carlton, Millennia Singapore.

2   The China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park (CS-SIP) project, the most significant bilateral collaboration between Singapore and China, celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year.  With the strong support from both governments, CS-SIP has made significant progress over the years.  Although it accounts for only 3% and 4% of Suzhou's land and population respectively, CS-SIP makes up 20% of Suzhou's foreign direct investment and total import/export, and 15% of Suzhou's GDP and financial revenue. 

3   Today, CS-SIP is home to more than 50 of the Fortune 500 companies and the average investment of US$31 million per project is the highest in China.

Coin Design

4   The coin features the "Harmony" sculpture at the CS-SIP that was jointly unveiled by Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew and China's Vice-Premier Li Lanqing in 2001 to symbolise the close bilateral relations.  
 
5   The "Harmony" sculpture, by sculptor Sun Yu Li, resembles the figure "8", symbolising "prosperity" and "abundance" for CS-SIP and its tenants. The words "CHINA-SINGAPORE SUZHOU INDUSTRIAL PARK" in English and Chinese, above and below the sculpture signify the central theme of the coin.  The "$10" denomination to the left of the sculpture and the words "10th Anniversary" in English and Chinese to the right provide the overall balance to the design.

6   The obverse of the coin bears the Singapore Arms with the year-date 2004.

Limited Worldwide Mintage

7   The coins will be issued on 10 June 2004.  The details of the coins are:

a)  S$10 Gold Proof Coin
1 troy ounce of 999.9 Fine Gold.  Coin diameter of 32.12 mm.  Very low mintage of 500 pieces only.  Issue price:  $1,000 (GST inclusive).

b)  S$10 Silver Proof Coin
20 grams of 999 Fine Silver.  Coin diameter of 38.70 mm.  Mintage of 5,000 pieces.   Issue price:   $68 (GST inclusive).

c)  S$10 Cupro-Nickel Proof-like Coin
28 grams of cupro-nickel.  Coin diameter of 40.70 mm.  Mintage of 7,000 pieces.   Issue price:   $24 (GST inclusive).

This set consists of a Silver Proof Coin and an exclusive Cupro-Nickel ingot in an acrylic casing. The ingot features an aerial view of the industrial park. The highlight of the ingot design is the Harmony sculpture. The ingot is only available in the Anniversary Sets. Issue price: $88 (GST inclusive).  Only 610 sets.

d)  Cupro-Nickel 10th Anniversary Set
This set consists of a Cupro-Nickel Proof-like Coin and the exclusive Cupro-Nickel ingot.  Issue price: $38 (GST inclusive).  Only 610 sets.
