MAS Launches National University of Singapore Centennial Commemorative Coins

Singapore, 2 July 2005...Senior Minister and Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), Goh Chok Tong today launched the National University of Singapore (NUS) Centennial Commemorative Coins at the NUS Centennial Celebration dinner. 2 NUS started as a small medical college in 1905. Today, it is internationally acknowledged as a global university with affiliations to the leading institutions around the world. Besides the Centennial coins to commemorate the institution's 100 years, NUS will be organising a series of activities to showcase its global excellence, academic distinction, cultural vibrancy and rich heritage. Coin Design 3 The coin design was based on the winning entry by Mr Wong Chung Hau and Ms Aw-Yeong Yan Yan in a coin design competition organised by NUS for its students, alumni members and staff. 4 The design includes the following elements:
