Singapore, 12 July 2006...The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today launched a set of coins to celebrate Singapore's 41 years of independence.  The commemorative coins symbolise Singapore's pride in attaining independence and sovereignty as well as the country's aspirations going forward.
 
About the Coin Design

2   The coin design features the official National Day Parade (NDP) 2006 logo with the theme 'OUR GLOBAL CITY, OUR HOME'.  It portrays Singapore as a vibrant cosmopolitan city and an international hub that is plugged into the global community.  At the same time, it is where Singaporeans, live, work and play - a place to call home.

3   Also depicted is a group of children running together to join in the National Day celebrations.  They symbolise a young and dynamic Singapore, poised for challenges ahead.  In the background is the National Stadium, which will be the venue for the NDP for the last time.  Above the Stadium is the traditional fly-past of the State Flag.
 
4   The obverse of the coin bears the Singapore Arms with the year-date 2006.

Limited Worldwide Mintage

5   The coins will be issued on 25 July 2006.  The details of the coins are as follows:

a) S$2 Silver Proof Coin
20 grams of 999 Fine Silver.  Coin diameter of 38.70 mm.  Mintage of 8,000 pieces.  Issue price:  S$58 (GST inclusive).

The NDP 2006 logo, the State Flag and the children are presented in colour application.

b) S$2  Cupro-Nickel Proof-like Coin
This 20 gm Cupro-Nickel Proof-like Coin has a diameter of 38.70 mm.  Mintage is based on demand.  Issue price:   S$18 (GST inclusive).

The NDP 2006 logo and State Flag are presented in colour application.

6   The above two coins are also available in a 2-in-1 Premium Coin Set, with a very low mintage of only 3,000 sets.  Issue price:  S$88 (GST inclusive).
