MAS Launches The 2008 Singapore 43 Years of Independence Commemorative Coins



Singapore, 27 June 2008...The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today launched a set of coins to commemorate Singapore’s 43 years of independence.

Coin Design

2   The official 2008 National Day Parade (NDP) logo, "Celebrating the Singapore Spirit", is the central feature of the coin design. The logo depicts five young Singaporeans, reaching for the stars.  This represents the next generation of Singaporeans, full of energy, striving for excellence and confident of a brighter future ahead. 
 
3   Also depicted on the coin is the newly inaugurated Singapore Flyer and the various NDP activities associated with the floating platform on Marina Bay venue.

4   The obverse of the coins bears the Singapore Arms with the year-date 2008.

Limited Worldwide Mintage

5   The coins will be issued on 8 July 2008. The details of the coins are as follows:

a) $2 Silver Proof Coin
20 grams of 999 fine silver with full colour application. Coin diameter of 38.70 mm. Mintage of 8,000 pieces. 

b) $2 Cupro-Nickel Proof-Like Coin
Proof-like condition with selective colour application. Coin diameter of 38.70 mm. Mintage will be based on demand.

c) 2-in-1 Coin Set
The above two coins are also available in a 2-in-1 Premium Set, with a low mintage of 2,008 sets only.
