Singapore, 12 March 2013…The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today launched the Singapore Third Series Commemorative Coin Sets. The coin sets will be issued on 26 April 2013.

Third Series Commemorative Coin Sets

2   The coin sets commemorate the launch of the Singapore Third Series coins, which marks Singapore’s progress as a nation, and represents a significant milestone in the currency history of Singapore.

3   The Third Series coin designs feature national icons and landmarks, and have larger denomination numerals. Each denomination of the new coins has a distinct edge pattern. The obverse of the commemorative coins bears the Singapore Coat of Arms with the year 2013 to mark the year of launch of the new coins.

4 The details of the coin sets are as follows:

a. Third Series Uncirculated Coin Set (5¢ - $1)

This set comprises five denominations, i.e. 5¢, 10¢, 20¢, 50¢ and $1, of the Third Series coins in uncirculated condition. The coins are made of multi-ply plated steel and are progressively sized by denomination. The $1 coin has a bi-metallic composition and a laser mark micro-engraving of the national flower of Singapore - Vanda Miss Joaquim. Mintage of 50,000 sets.

b. Second and Third Series Uncirculated Coin Set (5¢ - $1)

This set comprises five denominations, i.e. 5¢, 10¢, 20¢, 50¢ and $1, of each of the Second and Third Series coins in uncirculated condition. The set is specially packaged to mark the transition from the Second to the Third Series coins. Both series of the commemorative coins bear the same year 2013. Mintage of 100,000 sets.

c. Third Series Silver Proof Coin Set

The Silver Proof coin set features designs of the Third Series coins. Gold plating is applied to both the 5¢ and $1 coins to resemble the brass plating in the Third Series coins. Colour is applied to the Vanda Miss Joaquim on the $1 coin. Mintage of 20,000 sets.
