Singapore, 3 September 2015… The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced today that an additional six million folders will be printed to meet the overwhelming demand from Singaporeans for both the SG50 commemorative notes and folders. Demand for the folders has exceeded initial expectations.
From the middle of November 2015 onwards, two folders will be made available to every Singaporean household. They will be able to get these folders without having to obtain the SG50 notes at the banks. MAS will announce further details at a later date. In addition, folders will continue to be available at the banks for those who exchange for the requisite number of notes. There will be enough folders and there is no need to rush for them.
Singaporeans need not wait for the new folders in November to exchange for the commemorative notes. They can continue to make their exchange at the participating banks and enjoy priority for the commemorative notes until 30 September 2015. There is enough supply of the notes to meet demand from Singaporeans.
Folders will continue to be available at the banks, albeit in limited numbers currently. Only Singaporeans will be allowed to obtain the folders when they exchange the commemorative notes at the banks. The maximum number of folders remains at two per transaction. MAS would like to reiterate its appeal to the public to refrain from queuing repeatedly to get more than the stipulated two folders, in fairness to others.
“MAS is heartened by the positive response of Singaporeans to the SG50 commemorative notes and folders and is working to ensure that all Singaporean households are able to obtain the folders”, said Dr Andrew Khoo, Deputy Managing Director (Corporate Development).
