Future of Finance Institute Commences Operations, Starting with AI in Finance

Singapore, 3 November 2026... The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today announced that the Future of Finance Institute (FFI) has commenced operations, following the June 2026 announcement of its establishment . FFI aims to accelerate the adoption of new financial technologies and catalyse innovation in the financial sector.

2 FFI is starting with AI in finance, through three pillars: PathFin.ai, BuildFin.ai and SafeFin.ai. They will bring financial institutions together to share practical experience in implementing AI, develop good practices for deploying agentic AI, and strengthen the management of risks from AI use. FFI will progressively expand into other areas of financial innovation, including tokenisation.

Sharing AI knowledge across the sector (PathFin.ai)

3 FFI will establish its Knowledge Hub , building on the PathFin.ai programme to broaden the range of solutions available to financial institutions, support the validation of their practical usefulness, and improve matching with institutions’ needs. FFI will also establish Communities of Practice, bringing together practitioners from banking, insurance, capital markets, financial advisory and payments through industry exchanges, webinars and learning journeys to discuss common challenges in adopting AI and share practical approaches to address them.

Advancing AI capabilities (BuildFin.ai)

4 Under BuildFin.ai, FFI will work closely with financial institutions, technology companies and research institutions to develop guidance, good practices, industry standards and common tools and infrastructure for deploying AI, including agentic AI. Building on the recently released SAFR framework , FFI will place particular focus on developing the practices and tools for the safe use of AI agents in financial services.

Promoting sound AI risk management practices (SafeFin.ai)

5 SafeFin.ai, the third pillar of FFI’s AI work, will bring financial institutions together to develop practical resources and good practices for implementing MAS’ Guidelines on AI Risk Management , including for agentic AI. It will also enhance the MindForge AI Risk Management Toolkit to further address areas such as AI use case risk assessments, testing and assurance, and third-party AI. More details will be announced at a later date.

6 Mr Alan Lim has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of FFI on an interim basis and will concurrently continue in his role as Head, Financial Infrastructure and AI Office at MAS. He will lead FFI’s strategy and operations as it progressively builds out its programmes and deepens partnerships across the financial and technology ecosystems.

7 Mr Chia Der Jiun, Managing Director of MAS, said, “FFI is a public-private platform for MAS, financial institutions, technology firms and the research community to pool expertise and collaborate in fast-moving technology areas such as AI. It will seek to anchor key capabilities in Singapore and connect the ecosystem to accelerate innovation and support safe adoption of new technologies.”
