Risk Management

Management of Physical Risks to MAS Building

Physical risks have the potential to affect both MAS' buildings and properties. Examples of such risks include flash floods or extreme temperature. These risks can also impact the companies that supply MAS with goods, services and raw materials. For instance, the companies that provide key materials used in MAS' currency notes for MAS' currency vendors may face such risks.

Fortuitously, the MAS Building is situated in an area that is not prone to flooding. To further mitigate potential risks, various measures have been integrated into the building’s design. These measures include placing critical equipment above ground level, incorporating elevated building entrances, and implementing a water alert system in the basement carpark.

On a national level, PUB, Singapore's national water agency, has installed more than 300 water level sensors across Singapore to monitor drainage systems. They have also established a Telegram Channel to promptly inform subscribers about potential flash floods.
