Risk Management

Overview

Management of physical risks to MAS building

Physical risks have the potential to affect both our buildings and properties. Examples of such risks include flash floods or extreme temperature. These risks can also impact the companies that supply us with goods and services. For instance, the companies that provide key materials to our currency vendors for our currency notes may face such risks.

The MAS Building is situated in an area that is not prone to flooding. To further mitigate potential risks, various measures have been integrated into the building’s design. These measures include placing critical equipment above ground level, having elevated building entrances, and implementing a water alert system in the basement carpark. Currency House is also situated in an area that is not prone to flooding and has implemented a water alert system in its basement carpark.

PUB, our national water agency, has installed more than 300 water level sensors across Singapore to monitor drainage systems. They have also established an SMS alert system to provide timely updates to subscribers on potential flash floods.
