Formation of Human Resource Industry Group (HRIG) to strengthen partnership in the co-creation and implementation of manpower initiatives

MAS formed the HRIG, comprising a core group of Chief Human Resource Officers from key employers in the financial sector. The focus of the HRIG is to identify human capital needs, develop talent, and raise the standards of HR practices across firms in the financial sector. 

Growing Timber Series  

4 May 2021 

MAS and the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore (IBF) held the second webinar under the “Growing Timber” series, an initiative to develop the local workforce for the financial sector. MAS Managing Director Mr Ravi Menon shared the financial sector employment outlook for 2021, and how technology would continue to be a key driver of growth and jobs in the sector. The third run of the Technology in Finance Immersion Programme was announced at the session, offering 360 traineeship opportunities in an expanded list of tech jobs across 16 financial institutions (FIs).

At the third webinar under the “Growing Timber” series, Minister for Manpower Dr Tan See Leng, spoke on how a globalised workforce could drive Singapore’s sustained growth as an international financial centre. To achieve this, Singaporeans would need to adopt a global mindset to build global capabilities. The webinar also featured a panel discussion with leaders from key FIs on their career journeys, and how different stakeholders could play a part in developing the international capabilities of our workforce.

MAS and IBF extend training support measures to foster skills development in new growth areas 

25 June 2021 

MAS and IBF announced a further extension of its enhanced training support measures for skills development to 30 June 2022. The extension will continue to support the training momentum in new growth areas such as sustainable finance and family offices. 

Enhancement of Finance Associate Management Scheme and International Postings Programme 

3 September 2021 

MAS announced enhancements to two talent development schemes for the financial sector – the Finance Associate Management Scheme (FAMS) and International Postings Programme (iPOST), to expand opportunities for Singaporeans to gain international capabilities and receive training in priority areas.

MAS organises the digital Talent Pavilion, a one-stop platform for FinTech jobs and skills development, as part of the Growing Timber series

8 November 2021 

MAS worked with government agencies, the labour movement, industry associations and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to organise the second Talent Pavilion (TP) during the Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) 2021. TP is a one-stop platform for jobs and skills development in the FinTech industry, featuring tailored learning journeys with FinTech courses and support programmes offered by IHLs and government agencies. The first TP FinTech 101 Course, aimed at raising public awareness in FinTech, was also launched during SFF. Participants are awarded a knowledge certificate from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the Singapore FinTech Association upon course completion.

IBF and MAS launch new skills maps to enhance capabilities of family office professionals 

29 November 2021 

IBF and MAS launched two skills maps for family office professionals under the Skills Framework for Financial Services. The new skills maps serve as a resource for training providers and FIs to design family office-related training, and provide guidance on the skills and competencies family office professionals should possess.
