MAS’ initiatives to support staff’s development and enhance productivity

Future of Workforce

MAS introduced functional competency frameworks for its markets, investment risk, finance, and audit functions in 2024, to guide staff in acquiring role-specific competencies to support their career and professional growth.

MAS also introduced 50 hours of protected learning time for all staff to develop their functional and professional competencies, as well as to encourage a culture of continuous learning. MAS also expanded its mentoring programme for all staff to have access to a mentor at the workplace. Since 2023, the mentoring programme has benefited over 450 staff.

In 2024, MAS introduced Well-being@Gov, a programme which offers staff access to a comprehensive range of online tools and resources, as well as coaching and counselling support. This programme complements existing initiatives in place, including our Well-being Ambassadors, webinars and workshops to support staff wellness.

Future of Work

MAS continues to apply technology, including the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to enhance operations and boost staff productivity. For example, MAS launched a centralised AI hub as a one-stop platform for staff looking to tap on enterprise AI resources, including self-help guides and training events. MAS also organised a showcase day for staff to learn from their colleagues who had implemented digital and AI solutions, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and innovation. A GenAI-powered Intelligent Assistant is available to help staff query and synthesise information, extract relevant insights, as well as produce first-cuts of reports. Amid an uncertain global environment, MAS has also deployed GenAI-based news scanning tools to scan for and assess developments of interest more efficiently and comprehensively, as well as to automatically generate user-customised news alerts.

Application development capabilities are being strengthened using automation underpinned by GenAI. MAS is also developing platforms through cross-functional collaboration and agile delivery that synchronises technology with business objectives, while strengthening cybersecurity capabilities. For example, MAS is developing a cloud-based enterprise data science platform to empower data scientists to leverage cloud resources for efficient development and deployment of AI solutions, while prioritising security and scalability.

To further scale adoption of GenAI, MAS has been sharing our GenAI tools and collaborating (via joint hackathons) with peers in the central banking and regulatory community through the Bank for International Settlements’ Open Tech initiative.
