At the SuperReturn Asia Conference, Mr Alvin Tan, Minister of State, Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Trade and Industry, and MAS Board Member, shared how “Going Glocal” can help asset managers navigate a fast-changing private markets landscape. He noted that the global order had fundamentally shifted due to tariffs and geopolitical uncertainty, and private markets offered opportunities in areas such as private debt, infrastructure, green investments, and alternative assets. He urged managers to combine global strategies with deep local and regional expertise, highlighting Singapore’s role as a trusted hub connecting capital, talent, and opportunities across ASEAN and Asia.

Results of the 2025 Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Triennial Central Bank Survey of the Global Foreign Exchange (FX) and Over-The-Counter Derivatives Market

According to results of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) 2025 Triennial Central Bank Survey of the global FX and over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives market, Singapore strengthened its position as the third largest FX centre, after the UK and the US, with its share of global FX volumes rising to 11.8% in April 2025, from 9.5% in April 2022. Singapore’s FX average daily trading volumes (ADTV) rose to US$1.485 trillion in April 2025, increasing by 60% from April 2022.

Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) Distinction Evening

At the IBF Distinction Evening, Mr Chee Hong Tat, Minister for National Development and Deputy Chairman of MAS, spoke on how Singapore will harness AI to strengthen our financial sector and ensure continued good opportunities amidst technology and other shifts. He announced the launch of the PathFin.ai knowledge hub, which brings together financial institutions to share their AI implementation and workforce transformation experiences, and initiatives to uplift and upskill the workforce to be AI-ready.

21st Singapore International Reinsurance Conference

At the 21st Singapore International Reinsurance Conference, Mr Chia Der Jiun, Managing Director of MAS, highlighted opportunities for collaboration between MAS and the industry: (i) harnessing AI and data to enhance value and processes; (ii) mobilising insurance capital to invest and support infrastructure investments in Asia with a pilot initiative to facilitate insurers’ investments in sustainable infrastructure (“Project Verdi”); and (iii) developing the alternative risk transfer market to expand overall capacity and strengthen resilience in the mainstream insurance market, with the extension and expansion of the Insurance-Linked Securities Grant Scheme.

Announcement of Key Focus Areas to Develop Singapore as a Gold Trading Hub

To meet the growing investor interest to vault and trade gold in Singapore, MAS will work with the Singapore Bullion Market Association (SBMA) and key stakeholders – including banks, vault operations, a previous metals refinery and trading houses - on key focus areas to strengthen Singapore’s position as a trusted gold trading centre serving the Asia-Pacific region.
